ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The department of Tamil studies established in 1985 with the objective of bringing equality through education. It offers courses, conducts conferences, seminars, workshops and undertakes valuable research projects. Women in women’s writing, Tamil literature through the ages-feminist point of view, status of women through literature are the themes on which conferences were conducted by the department. A study of women head loaders in kodaikanal, portrayal of women in Tamil novels written by women writers, a hand book of feminist terms, concept of chboinist literature, Devotional literature, Modern literature, Ancient literature, Comparative literature and Translational studies are the specialized arena of the department. Training is given to students in creative writing. The department conducts monthly seminars for its students and scholars. Four Endowments namely Pavendar Bharathidasan endowment ,Prof.Dr.N .Subbu Reddiar Tmt Chellapapa Ammal Endowment, Prof.Dr.R.Alagappan Endowment, Dr. Aruna Sivakami Anantha Krishnan Endowment are in the Department and lectures and seminars regularly conducted by the department. The department has received funds from U.G.C for Major and Minor Research Projects and other projects funded by CICT, Chennai. Scholars are getting U.G.C J.R.F. RGRF, S.C|S.T|B.C Fellowships given by the central and state government.
