Dear Young Friends,
I congratulate you on your decision to continue your higher studies with Mother Teresa Women’s University. There is no age bar for education (Life is a learning process). I am glad that you chose Mother Teresa Women’s University, which is one of the few Women’s Universities in India. It is customary for women and men in the Western societies to go for higher education when they realize that market demands new qualifications and new skills. Education now in our country also can be had in different phases, in different ages and positions. The spirit and energy that you have shown in overcoming socio-economic hurdles and coming here to get higher education and new skills deserves appreciation. Distance Education in Mother Teresa Women’s University has proved to be a role model for other universities in offering job oriented and knowledge building courses. It caters to different categories of women and domestic women, employed, unemployed, young and old, rural and urban, women with different levels of education and different qualifications in different regions, developed and underdeveloped. It has opened up new vistas of educational opportunities with multiple options offered in three different campuses-Kodaikanal, Madurai and Chennai. The University’s aim is to enable different categories of women to enhance their abilities and their qualifications and excel in their performances. While making education accessible at any age for women, the university has not compromised on quality. In this endeavour, we, in the University hope and wish to make empowerment of women a reality.

Academic and Administrative Profile

Prof. Aruna Sivakami served as Professor & Head of Department of Politics and Public Administration, University of Madras with 32 years of Teaching and Research experience in the field of State and Society. She has received the honorary award of Fellow of Society of Environmental Science of India for her contribution on Water Pollution by University of Jharkhand.

Her memberships in professional bodies include Advisory Board for Professional Women, North Carolina, U.S.A since 1997 to the present. She is a member of International Bioethics Association, Asian Bioethics Association and All India Bioethics Association, Indian Political Science Association, Indian Institute of Public Administration, Indian Institute of Public Administration Regional Branch - Tamil Nadu.

She has contributed more than 65 research papers in various National and International Conferences. Her important publications are 21 in reputed Journals and Books. (Sterling Publishers, ABD Publishers, Mittal Publishers, Radha Publishers, Journal of Ecological and Environmental Studies and Journal of Current Sciences). Her Publications mostly focus on Civil Service, Administration and Water Pollution and Gender issues (Health).

Her publication on Paradoxes on Issues of Water Governance by TR publishers Chennai , June 2005 was a research publication. She was Guest Faculty on Cross Cultural Issues of Bioethics in Tsukuba Science University, Japan 1998-2000 and 2004. She has given guest lectures in The Tamil Nadu Ambedkar Law University and Department of Genetics, Department of Philosophy, University of Madras.
